Fibre-optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of infrared light through an optical fibre. The light is a form of carrier wave that is modulated to carry information. Fibre is preferred over electrical cabling when high bandwidth, long distance, or immunity to electromagnetic interference is required. This type of communication can transmit voice, video, and telemetry through local area networks or across long distances.
Optical fibre is used by many telecommunications companies to transmit telephone signals, Internet communication, and cable television signals. Researchers at Bell Labs have reached a record bandwidth–distance product of over 100 petabit × kilometers per second using fibre-optic communication.
Beeston is a town in Nottinghamshire, England, 3.4 miles (5.5 km) south-west of Nottingham city centre. To the immediate north-east is the University of Nottingham's main campus, University Park. The pharmaceutical and retail chemist group Boots has its headquarters 0.6 miles (1 km) east of the centre of Beeston, on the border with Broxtowe and the City of Nottingham. To the south lies the River Trent and the village of Attenborough, with its extensive wetlands.
