Programmable Logic Controllers Troubleshooting

PLC troubleshooting involves identifying and fixing errors that cause the PLC to behave unpredictably. The process of troubleshooting involves converting the symptom to a desired action not occurring, which then is single out to a real world input or output. You then trace backward from real world I/O through internal conditions to be met.The following are some steps to troubleshoot a PLC:

  • Check the power supply and ground cabling visually.

  • Troubleshoot inputs and outputs to figure out why the PLC’s internal status is not in line with the external situation.

  • Check inputs for proper wiring.

  • Check outputs for proper wiring.

  • Identify the root cause of the problem and then take the necessary steps to fix it.
