Night Shift

What is a night shift?

A night shift is a work period that normally spans from the evening to the early hours of the morning. If you work half of your shift between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m., you likely work the night shift. While many businesses have standard hours of operation from 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., some companies stay open for 24 hours a day or close in the late hours of the morning. These businesses may have a night shift as a part of their schedule.

Night shifts may be common in industries that conduct business in several time zones, like customer service call centers or places that offer services during all hours of the day and night, such as hospitals and factories.
