Evening Shift

What is an evening shift?

An evening shift is a work period that typically spans the late afternoon and evening, meaning it likely begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 12 a.m. or 1 a.m. Employees may work rotating shift hours, meaning that on certain days they work in the morning, and on others, they begin their workday in the afternoon. Depending on the business, this may be the last shift of the workday. Alternatively, some employees may work a night shift after or instead of an evening shift if the hours of operation also take place overnight.

In an evening shift, employees typically work at least half of their daily hours between four in the afternoon and midnight. Businesses with an evening shift may include places that provide goods and services available after some people finish their regular shifts, like restaurants, bars and certain types of retailers.
