Mobile Field Service Engineer
Permanent | Woodbridge, Suffolk | 40 Hours per Week (Mon–Fri + Callouts & Weekend Work)
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading defence engineering organisation for a Permanent Mobile Field Service Engineer based in Woodbridge, Suffolk. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a long-term, secure contract supporting the UK Armed Forces, maintaining mission-critical plant and mechanical handling equipment across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
This role offers variety, autonomy and real purpose. You will proactively maintain and repair a diverse fleet of construction plant, HGVs and materials-handling equipment, ensuring operational readiness across key defence environments.
The Opportunity
Working as part of a highly skilled engineering team, you will:
•
Maintain, inspect, service and repair construction plant, HGVs and mechanical handling equipment in line with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
•
Diagnose faults quickly and accurately, identifying true root causes and delivering safe, cost-effective repairs.
•
Liaise with the central Service Desk and customers to provide clear updates on timescales, scope of work and associated costs.
•
Identify non-fair wear and tear (NFWT) damage and highlight additional repair opportunities where appropriate.
•
Manage local stock of spares, attachments, technical documentation and ancillaries.
•
Complete all job documentation accurately and obtain required customer sign-off.
•
Adopt and promote safe systems of work, conducting dynamic risk assessments where required.
•
Support and mentor MOD maintainers and users within your competency level.
•
Contribute to local KPIs and performance targets.
•
Undertake callouts, weekend duties and occasional work away from your regional location.
What We Are Looking For
•
City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
•
Experience maintaining construction plant, MHE or HGV equipment.
•
Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including LOLER and PUWER.
•
Ability to carry out dynamic risk assessments and contribute to safe systems of work.
•
Full UK driving licence.
•
No restrictions on obtaining and retaining MOD security clearance.
•
Valid passport.
•
Comfortable working under periods of high workload and in a mobile field-based role.
We welcome applications from engineers with civilian or Armed Forces backgrounds.
Why This Role Stands Out
You will be joining a specialist engineering division that plays a direct role in maintaining UK operational capability. The organisation manages the full lifecycle of a diverse fleet including excavators, cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, generators and other critical mechanical assets.
