Known for precision, technical innovation, and a collaborative culture, this is an ideal opportunity for an experienced drafter who thrives in a hands-on, engineering-led environment.
As a CAD Technician / Instrumentation & Controls Drafter, you'll work alongside skilled engineers to turn system concepts into fully engineered drawing packages that support fabrication, installation, and commissioning. Your drawings will directly contribute to real-world performance, from control panels to complex combustion systems.
What You’ll Be Doing – Day to Day
Develop High-Quality Technical Drawings
Create comprehensive drawing packages using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical, covering P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, Boolean logic, and control schematics.
Produce detailed wiring diagrams for both local and PLC-based control panels, ensuring all connections and configurations are accurately represented.
Generate general arrangement (GA) drawings for control panels and instrumentation layouts, optimised for ease of installation and maintenance.
Interpret Engineering Requirements
Work closely with Controls Engineers to understand control philosophies, instrumentation layouts, and system design intent.
Translate complex project specifications into logical, functional drawings that can be easily followed by production teams, installation contractors, and commissioning engineers.
Engage in detailed design reviews to ensure alignment with project scope and functional requirements.
Bill of Materials & Documentation Control
Compile full and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) that support purchasing and production activities.
Ensure every component listed in the BOM corresponds with the design drawings and meets customer or internal specification.
Track revisions and maintain version control across all drawing and document sets using standardised templates and web-based document systems.
Liaise with the Workshop and Production Teams
Carry out regular on-site visits to the fabrication workshop, collaborating with build teams to resolve design queries and support real-time updates.
Make live edits to drawings based on feedback from technicians and assembly engineers, ensuring clarity and manufacturability.
Provide clarification or redline drawings where needed to address non-conformities or late-stage design changes.
Create and Manage ‘As-Built’ Documentation
Following installation or project handover, generate accurate ‘as-built’ documentation reflecting all final changes made during construction or commissioning.
Validate installation routes, panel layouts, and instrumentation connections on-site to confirm drawing accuracy.
Maintain Rigorous Quality Standards
Review your own and peers’ drawings to uphold drafting standards, ensure completeness, and eliminate errors or inconsistencies.
Participate in internal reviews and formal drawing approvals to meet engineering sign-off protocols.
Software & System Use
Use AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical confidently to develop and edit all required documentation.
Use Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation control, part referencing, and data entry.
Navigate web-based platforms for drawing uploads, change requests, and project workflows.

In-depth knowledge of panel layout design, electrical wiring schematics, and industrial control systems
Proven ability to produce and manage full Bills of Materials
Comfortable working to tight deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects
Understanding of process control and instrumentation standards, including familiarity with P&IDs
An engineering qualification (or equivalent hands-on drafting/design experience)
Excellent attention to detail, planning and organisational skills
