We are currently recruiting for an Finance & Accounts Manager for a prestigious organisation covering a large site with a mix of stunning historical and modern buildings, all set on stunning grounds.

The Finance & Account Manager manages the Finance Department team of eight staff who provides the accounting function for all the departments within the organisation.

As Finance & Account Manager you will maintain and improve financial controls as well as producing monthly management accounts. You will also support with financial planning and budgeting, prepare year-end figures for audit and submit financial reports and returns.

What you will be doing day-to-day:

  • Maintaining appropriate and effective systems and procedures for financial control, in line with regulatory and audit requirements and agreed policies

  • Reviewing and responding to any control weaknesses identified through audit or other procedures and checks

  • Assisting with annual budget preparation

  • Ensuring accurate and timely monthly cost reporting to budget holders

  • Monitoring departmental and project expenditure

  • Proactively liaising with budget holders to minimise overspends

  • Investigating problem areas and ensuring the Finance Director is kept closely informed of developing financial risks

  • Training of and support for budget holders.

  • Ensuring agreed financial reports, returns and management information are produced, agreed, and submitted in line with agreed internal and regulatory timetables.

  • Providing the Finance Director with summaries for audit and statutory accounts disclosure purposes.

  • Ensuring accurate and timely preparation and distribution of termly fee bills

  • Undertaking a structured programme of credit control.

  • Ensuring accurate and timely submission of Gift Aid claims to HMR&C.

  • Leading and motivating the Accounts team, and developing technical skills in department staff

Who we are looking for: 

  • Qualified accountant preferably ACA, ACCA, or CIMA

  • Experience in financial and management reporting and budgeting

  • Experience in managing a team and is someone who is personable, supportive, and can motivate and work well within in a team

  • Strong IT skills, including MS office products, and in particular Excel spreadsheets, including scrutiny and analysis of data

  • Experience in financial systems in the independent school sector is desirable

  • Confidence to query information and ability to be assertive when necessary

  • Possessing the capacity to analyse and improve systems and working practices
