Senior Electrical Project Engineer
Home-Based (UK) with Site and Occasional Overseas Travel
Salary: Up to £65,000 DOE + £4,000 Car Allowance + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
The Opportunity
An established UK engineering and operational services organisation is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex power generation, renewable energy and industrial infrastructure projects.
This is a high-impact role working across advanced energy transition technologies including power generation, energy storage and low-carbon infrastructure. The role offers exposure to full project lifecycle delivery — from feasibility and design through to commissioning and operational support — within technically challenging environments.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, commercial stakeholders and external partners, contributing directly to the successful delivery of critical UK energy infrastructure projects.
The Environment
The organisation operates across complex energy and process infrastructure sectors including renewable energy, waste-to-energy, anaerobic digestion, battery storage and industrial energy systems.
The culture is engineering-led and delivery-focused, offering engineers the opportunity to work on real-world infrastructure challenges with tangible operational outcomes.
Detailed Responsibilities
Electrical System Design & Technical Delivery
Lead the design and engineering of electrical systems across complex energy and infrastructure projects, including grid-scale generation, industrial energy systems and renewable energy installations. This will include producing and reviewing technical specifications, single line diagrams, protection philosophies and equipment selection to ensure systems are safe, compliant and commercially viable.
Power Generation & Grid Integration Engineering
Support the integration of generation and storage assets into the UK grid, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and grid connection requirements. You will provide technical input into connection strategies, power system studies and interface management with network operators and utilities.
Feasibility Studies & Technical Due Diligence
Carry out early-stage technical feasibility assessments to support project development and investment decisions. This includes reviewing plant design concepts, identifying technical risks, supporting cost modelling and advising stakeholders on engineering viability.
Project Lifecycle Technical Support
Act as a key electrical engineering lead across full project lifecycles — from concept and design through construction, commissioning and operational optimisation. You will provide technical oversight during installation and commissioning to ensure systems are delivered to design intent.
System Modelling, Simulation & Performance Optimisation
Use modelling and simulation tools to assess system behaviour, performance and stability. You will support optimisation of generation, storage and control systems to maximise efficiency, reliability and asset performance.
Control Systems & Process Integration
Support the development and implementation of electrical and control strategies across generation and process environments. This includes working alongside control engineers, SCADA specialists and operational teams to ensure safe, reliable and efficient system operation.
Cross-Discipline Engineering Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical, process, controls and project engineering teams to ensure electrical systems are fully integrated into wider plant and infrastructure designs. You will act as a technical reference point for electrical engineering decisions across projects.
Technical Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
Provide high-level fault finding, root cause analysis and technical troubleshooting support across live projects and operational assets. This will involve both desk-based engineering analysis and hands-on site-based technical support when required.
Stakeholder & External Interface Management
Engage with utilities, regulatory bodies, technology vendors and contractors to support project delivery and technical approvals. You will represent the business in technical meetings and support the development of long-term engineering partnerships.
Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all engineering activities align with UK and international safety standards, environmental regulations and electrical engineering codes. You will support safe system design, safe commissioning processes and ongoing operational compliance.
Project Development & Technical Documentation
Support business development and project delivery teams by producing high-quality technical reports, proposals and engineering documentation. This may include supporting tender responses, client presentations and technical justification reports.
Site & Commissioning Support
Attend UK project sites to support installation reviews, commissioning activities, testing and operational handover. Occasional overseas travel may be required for supplier engagement, project support or client interface.
