Mechanical maintenance technician responsibilities
Mechanical maintenance technicians are responsible for maintaining and repairing machinery, equipment and mechanical systems. They also troubleshoot problems with these items. Mechanical maintenance technicians work in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, aviation and aerospace. Mechanical maintenance technicians perform a variety of tasks, from changing oil to fixing broken parts. They typically work in manufacturing, construction and other industries that use machines and equipment. Their duties may include:
maintaining the physical condition of equipment by performing routine inspections and repairs
repairing or replacing defective components
performing scheduled maintenance on equipment such as motors or valves
installing new machinery or equipment
monitoring machinery operation to ensure that it's working properly
inspecting machines and equipment for signs of damage or wear
changing filters to keep the system clean
maintaining inventory levels of spare parts in case they're necessary for repairs
