About the Opportunity

A leading UK provider of temporary heating, cooling and HVAC plant is seeking an experienced Chiller & Boiler Specialist Engineer to join their expanding team. Supporting commercial and industrial clients nationwide, this organisation delivers turnkey temporary solutions, including chillers, packaged boilers, air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers and associated plant.

This role offers substantial technical variety, hands-on engineering, and the opportunity to work with large-capacity commercial systems across multiple industry sectors.

The Role

The Chiller & Boiler Specialist Engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of temporary HVAC plant on client sites — from installation and commissioning, through to servicing, optimisation and emergency support.

Key Responsibilities

Installation, Setup & Commissioning

  • Install and commission temporary chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling systems and associated pipework.

  • Configure controls, sensors, flow rates, setpoints and safety systems.

  • Ensure correct integration with client infrastructure (hydronic, electrical and controls).

  • Conduct safety checks, system testing and performance verification prior to handover.

Maintenance, Servicing & Optimisation

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on temporary HVAC plant in line with operational standards.

  • Carry out refrigerant checks, burner tuning, combustion analysis, pressure testing and system balancing.

  • Complete heat exchanger inspections, pump maintenance, filter changes, valve checks, and electrical testing.

  • Use remote monitoring systems (where applicable) to diagnose faults early and optimise system performance.

Fault-Finding & Technical Support

  • Respond to emergency breakdowns, identifying mechanical, electrical, refrigeration or combustion-related issues.

  • Conduct thorough diagnostics on chillers, boilers, pumps, control panels, sensor networks and ancillary equipment.

  • Implement safe, efficient repairs to restore system performance quickly.

  • Provide expert technical advice to clients on operational best practice and system care.

Operational Support & Documentation

  • Assist with the mobilisation and demobilisation of temporary plant, including equipment positioning and connection.

  • Produce accurate engineering reports, job sheets, risk assessments and commissioning records.

  • Maintain the highest standards of health & safety, adhering to site rules and engineering best practice.

  • Contribute to a 24/7 operational rota, providing out-of-hours response when required.

What We’re Looking For

Technical Experience

Strong background with commercial chillers (air-cooled or water-cooled) including compressor types, refrigerants, controls and system architecture.

Proven experience with commercial boilers, including gas systems, burners, flues, controls and combustion analysis.

Competence across both mechanical and electrical systems (pumps, valves, sensors, motors, drives, panels).

Experience with temporary or mobile plant is desirable but not essential.

Background in HVAC, building services, industrial refrigeration or commercial heating is highly advantageous.

Qualifications & Compliance

F-Gas / Refrigeration qualification (preferred).

Commercial gas qualifications (COCN1, CODNCO1, CORT1 or equivalent) beneficial.

NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical or HVAC discipline (or equivalent experience).

Strong understanding of relevant standards, safety protocols and compliance frameworks.

Full UK driving licence required.
