HEATING & GAS ENGINEER – £38,000 | Full-Time | 39 Hours | Rutland

No call centres. No corporate chaos. Just real engineering, on a historic campus, with job security, purpose, and progression.

About the Role

Set in the heart of Rutland, this institution isn’t just any workplace — it’s a nationally respected independent school with a vast estate that blends centuries of history with modern facilities. The Estates Team is the backbone of this community, keeping the grounds, systems and infrastructure operating to the highest standards. This is your chance to work where your skills are respected — and where no two days are ever the same.

This is hands-on, boots-on-the-ground engineering. As a Heating & Gas Engineer, you’ll be the go-to expert for heating and hot water systems across a large and varied estate. From historic school buildings to state-of-the-art sports facilities, you’ll diagnose, maintain, repair and upgrade systems that keep everything running smoothly.

You’ll be using a tablet to manage tasks through a smart CAFM system — no paperwork, no confusion — and working alongside a wider Estates team that knows the value of skilled trades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair domestic and commercial heating systems

  • Conduct routine servicing of boilers, PRVs, and expansion vessels

  • Ensure all works are completed to Gas Safe standards

  • Install pipework and systems as part of heating upgrades

  • Use the CAFM system via tablet to manage and record tasks

  • Collaborate with the wider Estates team on projects and refurbishments

  • Uphold health & safety practices in all aspects of the work

  • Engage with long-term sustainability goals, including heat pump systems and modern controls

What We’re Looking For

  • ACS Qualified: CCN1, CENWAT & HTR1

  • City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3 in mechanical services or equivalent experience

  • Gas Safe Registered

  • Full UK Driving Licence

  • Strong working knowledge of gas legislation and safety protocols

  • Experience with varied pipework (iron, copper, lead, plastic)

  • Familiarity with heating controls, pump technology, and water hygiene

  • Solid understanding of H&S regulations including COSHH and asbestos awareness

  • Comfortable using digital systems to log and manage work

Benefits

  • Competitive £38,000 salary

  • 39-hour contract, Monday–Friday — no endless overtime

  • On-the-job autonomy and responsibility

  • Smart device and digital workflow system

  • Work in stunning surroundings across a heritage-rich estate

  • Supportive team culture with long-term employment prospects

  • Access to additional training and upskilling opportunities

  • Stability in a role that makes a real impact every day

Why Join?

Because this isn’t just another contractor role. It’s a long-term career opportunity with real stability and a supportive team. If you're tired of rushed patch jobs, short-term contracts, or reactive-only roles — this is a chance to apply your skills properly and contribute to a meaningful, well-maintained estate.
