Lead Enterprise AI Engineer
Salary: Up to £65,000 | 40 hours per week | Predominantly home-based (UK) with occasional site travel
We are recruiting on behalf of a highly established UK energy infrastructure organisation that is making significant long-term investment in data, analytics and artificial intelligence to drive innovation across its national operations.
The role sits within a central Data, Analytics & AI function and will play a pivotal part in turning business challenges into production-ready AI tools used across finance, operations and commercial teams.
The Opportunity
As Lead Enterprise AI Engineer, you will be responsible for operationalising the organisation’s AI strategy – taking use cases from concept through to live deployment.
Your core focus will be on building intelligent agents and conversational AI solutions using Microsoft Copilot technologies and Databricks, with a particular emphasis on semantic modelling and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
Key Responsibilities
Design, build and deploy AI agents and copilots using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Platform.
Develop custom RAG solutions within Databricks to allow LLMs to reason over proprietary business data.
Integrate AI tools with enterprise platforms such as Dynamics 365, SharePoint and operational systems.
Own and curate Databricks Genie semantic layers, translating complex schemas into business-friendly models.
Define and govern metrics, dimensions and business logic within Unity Catalog.
Partner with stakeholders across finance, operations and commercial functions to prototype and deliver AI use cases.
Implement AI monitoring frameworks covering cost, performance, latency and output quality.
Ensure strong data governance, security and responsible AI practices across all solutions.
Act as a technical ambassador for AI internally, helping non-technical teams adopt and use new tools effectively.
Mentor junior analysts and engineers within the wider data function.
What We’re Looking For
This role will suit someone who is both highly technical and highly practical – someone who enjoys solving real business problems with modern AI tooling.
You’ll ideally bring:
Strong hands-on experience within the Microsoft/Azure ecosystem (Copilot Studio, Fabric, Power Platform).
Commercial experience with Databricks (SQL, Unity Catalog, Mosaic AI, Genie).
Practical experience with LLMs, prompt engineering and RAG architectures.
Advanced Python and SQL skills for data manipulation and API integration.
Experience integrating systems using REST APIs.
A strong understanding of semantic modelling and analytics data design.
The ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Salary & Package
Salary up to £65,000.
25 days holiday plus bank holidays (rising to 30 with service).
Competitive pension scheme.
Life assurance (4x salary).
Employee participation and long-term incentive schemes.
Comprehensive wellbeing, health and development benefits.
