Duty Control Manager & Shunter – Derby CIRCA £45k | Leading UK Rail Innovation

We are recruiting for an experienced Duty Control & Operations Support Manager to help deliver safe, efficient and reliable train operations across the UK.

This is a high-responsibility, safety-critical role within a real-time operational environment, supporting traincrew, managing disruption, coordinating service delivery and providing essential frontline operational cover when required.

This role includes essential operational requirements.

  • Full Shunter and/or Depot Driver competence (essential)

  • This is required for operational coverage and safety. Candidates without this competence cannot be considered.

  • Ability to travel nationwide as required

  • Flexibility to work a roster including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays

Key Responsibilities

Deliver safe and efficient delivery of the train plan across rostered shifts
• Manage traincrew resources and adjust plans during service disruption
• Communicate clearly with traincrew, operational staff, suppliers and customers
• Maintain accurate operational logs and safety incident reporting
• Issue timings, notices and documentation to relevant staff
• Support the operational response to incidents, faults, accidents and environmental issues
• Maintain required route, traction and rules competence
• Prepare trains to a high safety and operational standard, escalating risks appropriately
• Provide cover for Operations Supervisor and Depot Driver duties when required
• Support delay minimisation and continuous improvement within the Control function

About You

Experience in a rail operations or control room environment
• Full Shunter or Depot Driver competence (essential)
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• High attention to detail and strong safety awareness
• Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced operational setting
• Committed to professional standards, performance and safety
